Pierpont Farms is a locally owned and operated vegetable farm located just outside the city limits of Columbia, Missouri.
We practice sustainable methods utilizing compost, cover crops, trap crops, row covers, irrigation from our pond and crop rotations along with many other non-chemical methods of ongoing soil improvement. We utilize high tunnels to extend our growing season and protect tender crops.
We grow a wide variety of produce including:
- heirloom, slicing and cherry tomatoes
- kale, swiss chard, and other greens
- peppers (many varieties)
- summer and winter squash
- sweet potatoes
- Lots of others!
Some of the sustainable practices we use on our farm include crop rotation, cover cropping, composting, attracting pollinators, using only chemical-free pesticides when needed, using organic seed, building healthy soil and more. We created and utilize a water catchment system with a pond that we pump through drip irrigation which minimizes water usage, allowing it to be directed straight to the roots of the plant. The tunnels we have help with season extension and protect plants from the vagaries of weather.
The farm started out with a CSA and slowly grew over the years. In 2006, a pond for watering was put in. In 2008, a greenhouse and the first of three high tunnels were built; two more high tunnels and three Haygrove tunnels were later added. Today, we no longer have the CSA, but sell wholesale to local businesses including restaurants, grocery stores and institutions. Many of the popular vegetables we have grown over the years include tomatoes, lettuces and greens, peppers, root crops, cucumbers, squashes, pumpkins and melons.
We truly enjoy providing Columbia with local, quality produce and welcome input from our customers.
